Birendranagar Municipality, the capital of Karnali Province, has officially launched the Integrated Municipal Information System (IMIS) project. This comprehensive digital platform integrates web, mobile, and GIS technologies using open-source software to streamline citywide data management. The municipality aims to leverage IMIS for a full sanitation value chain and integrated CWIS indicators.
Supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the Global Water & Sanitation Center at AIT (GWSC-AIT), with technical assistance from ISPL, the project was formalized through a tripartite agreement between Birendranagar Municipality, WaSGISP/DWSSM/GoN, and GWSC-AIT/ISPL.
During the launch event, Mayor Ms. Mohanmaya Dhakal emphasized IMIS’s role in improving municipal service efficiency and supporting community-level sanitation planning. Dr. Bhushan Raj Shrestha from ISPL presented the project's objectives, phase-wise activities, and integration with municipal functions.
